On the Road 2018
18 0802-3 New Haven CT - Providence RI
Because super-daughter earned a spot in the 2018 Brown University Women's Leadership Conference, the super-wife and I travel up to Providence R.I. to fetch her after her two weeks. It was revelatory, meaningful and really put the gasoline on the fire of her ambition. Her final action plan pick was stunning in it's breadth and presentation. Fatherly pride aside, she is on her way to big things should she continue to pursue that path. Super proud of her.
On the way up, we stopped off at the establishment that quite literally invented the hamburger as we know it; Louis' Lunch in New Haven CT. The gas burners there have been making perfect burgers since 1895 and they are just about the best burgers I've ever had. Also, NO ketchup! Yay!
Once in Providence, we rendezvous-ed with the daughter and her friends and then found a BBQ place near the campus. It was decent to be so far north but the beer was cold and the cocktails were strong so there's that.
Our Air B and B was the former mansion of Gorham Silver family. Chip, the innkeeper was full of tips, history and good advice and the breakfast was perfect.
Our tummies sated, we headed off to the RISD Museum which had a Matisse I'd never seen among a great deal of really, really special modern art. The student exhibition section was also fantastic.
Later that afternoon, we headed south with a brief stop in good old Killingworth CT so super-daughter could show super-wife where she lived from December 2008 to July 2011. It was weird and emotional to go there but we did it and she survived the "feels" it brought on. We hit the good old Shoreline Diner in Guilford and then the females dozed (and flat out slumbered), while I brought us back into PA.
It was a solid start to what would be a fairly epic car trip this summer!
